Globalization Phenomenon in International Education

Facilitated by the globalization phenomenon, international education refers to a dynamic concept involving a journey or movement of students, minds, or ideas across political and cultural frontiers. Studying internationally offers a wider variety of courses to the students, some also including research options and skill-based training for students which further helps in expanding their horizons and opens up a world of new educational opportunities for them. The world of international education is considered to be a melting pot of individuals and learning with a global perspective ensures students are exposed to different cultures, ethnic groups, religions and languages, enriching society in the process and broadening the academic experience for everyone. There are many colleges or universities which offer Credit Transfer Program in India in which the students get visas to study in international universities.

Rich with diversity and opportunity

A study abroad program is designed for students who wish to study at a foreign school that their home school doesn’t have a formal exchange agreement with. There are several major differences. Tuition fees are paid directly to the foreign school rather than to the home school, which allows the student to study at almost any school they wish to. Also, credits obtained at the foreign school may not necessarily be transferable back to the home school, or perhaps only a portion of them. The advantage to this program is that the student gets a wider choice of schools to attend and is not restricted to the limited number of spots available to exchange students.

Endless Possibilities

Credit Transfer Programs offer endless opportunities to the students who want to seek international education with 1+3, 2+2, 3+1 Program. One of the main benefits of such programmes is that the credits attained at the foreign school are transferable back to the home school, although the grades attached to them (if provided) are not used for the calculation of GPA’s, scholarship eligibility requirements, and the like. This is what most people think of when they hear of study abroad. Many schools have reciprocal agreements with foreign schools (or other schools in Canada), in which a certain number of students are exchanged between the schools. This number changes every year, which affects the number of available spots for students.

Some of the key features of this program include:
  • The student begins his/her studies at the Indian university and transfers to partner university generally after spending 2 years at the Indian university.
  • Upon successful fulfillment of the degree requirement at partner/receiving University, the student will be awarded a degree by the host international University.
  • With articulation agreements with the Universities from around the globe and with this number increasing each year, the colleges/ universities offer a wide range of Universities in foreign countries to the students to choose from.
  • Division of International Affairs (DIA) dedicatedly assists and advises the prospective students of the various programs in completion of various requirements and to ensure seamless academic transfer to partner/receiving University.
  • Duration of the Credit Transfer Program

For both study abroad and exchange programs, duration is dependent on the program and the school. Typically exchanges run from 1 semester to 1 academic year, although there are several schools that offer short-term programs (2 weeks to 1 month).
